Abraham
One of the hardest things about being friends with God is getting used to the fact that He’s invisible, at least in this life. And furthermore, this God, whom we can’t see, requires that we follow Him by faith, not by sight. So what does that mean? It means that most of us aren’t told in advance exactly where He’s leading us or how he’s going to get us there. It’s a bit like blindfolding a close friend and taking that person on a “trust walk”. No true friend would ever purposely bump you into a stump or lead you off a cliff. And God is the same way. “You never saw Him, yet you love Him. You don’t see Him now, yet you trust Him…” You see, God seldom lets us see what’s ahead. He simply wants us to trust instead. And when we do, He always gets us there safe and sound. Can’t See What’s Ahead Gotta Trust Instead

Abraham
The Lord told Abram, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:1-3
God made 4 promises to Abram in these verses:
1. God would lead Abram to a new land.
2. God would make Abram a great nation.
3. God would bless Abram and make him famous.
4. Through Abram the entire world would be blessed.
Abram had a choice to make. Abram decided to follow God. He was 75 years old when he left his homeland with Sarai (his wife) and Lot (his nephew), and all their belongings to journey to Canaan. When they arrived in Canaan God tells Abram that this land is the land God is giving to Abram and his descendants. This means that promise #1 is fulfilled.
The next two promises sound a little more interesting since they both indicate Abram would have children, but he is already 75 years old and has no kids yet! In Genesis 15:5-6a “The Lord takes Abram outside and says to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” And Abram believed the Lord.
Fast forward a few years, Abram is 99 years old and still has no kids from Sarai! In Genesis 17:5, 15-16a the Lord appears to Abram again and says, “I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham, for you will be the father of many nations. “Regarding Sarai, your wife, her name will no longer be Sarai. From now on her name will be Sarah. And I will bless her and give you a son from her! This means that promise #3 is fulfilled. Sarah became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age. Abraham named their son Isaac. Abraham was 100 years old when promise #2 was fulfilled!
Abraham’s decision to follow God fulfilled the promise that he would be a “Great Nation”. That nation would be Israil, and Abraham would be Jesus’ great, great (40 times) grandpa. When Jesus came to earth, God’s promise was fulfilled, and it was through Abraham the entire world was blessed. This means that promise #4 is fulfilled.
Abraham believed God even though His promises seemed impossible. It was this trust in God, his faith, that made him right with God. God used him in His plan! Abraham will always be remembered as the hero of faith! A friend of God! What about you? Do you believe God even when His promises seem impossible? Do you have faith? Just like Abraham trusted God, we can trust God too. God loves us and has a special plan for our lives. When Abraham met God, it changed his life! Will you let God change your life too? Will you "Walk by Faith" even if it seems impossible?
