Joshua
Rahab
The Jordon River

God’s people were finishing the last lap of their 40-year desert marathon. They were tired and sunburned. Everybody was thinking: This time, will we trust God to help us take the land, or will we chicken out and run like before? The Israelites had learned to flex their faith muscles, and Joshua wasn’t about to let anyone get flabby now. Under his leadership they stayed strong and courageous. Like an attacking shark, Joshua struck fear in the hearts of the people of Canaan. God gave Joshua victory after victory, helping him chew up the Canaanites’ evil ways. Joshua 1

Joshua Part 1‍

Life can be scary sometimes. Joshua felt scared when God told him to lead His people into the Promised Land. But instead of focusing on his fears, he focused on God. He trusted God to make him strong and give him courage.

Joshua sent two men to look at the land and the city of Jericho. There they met a woman named Rahab. Rahab had made many bad choices in her life, but she believed in God. When the king of Jericho heard the spies were in the city, he sent soldiers to find them. Rahab hid the spies on her roof under some bundles of flax. Then she told the soldiers the spies had already left, and the soldiers hurried away. Rahab told the spies, “Everyone in Jericho is afraid because we know your God is powerful. Please save me and my family.” The spies agreed saying, “When God gives us the land, we will be kind to you. You can trust us.” Rahab trusted God, and God kept her safe.

When the spies returned, Joshua led God's people to the Jordan River. The river was very full, but God did a miracle! The water stopped flowing, and the people walked across on dry ground. After they crossed, God told them to gather twelve stones from the river. The stones helped the people remember how God had taken care of them and kept His promise.

God loved Rahab and changed her life. He gave her a very special place in His plan. Rahab became the great-great-great-great-great (30 times) grandmother of Jesus. Just as God made a way for Rahab to be saved, He has made a way for us to be saved too. God sent His Son, Jesus, to save us from our sins. Jesus died on the cross and came back to life three days later. When we believe in Jesus, we can be forgiven and be with God forever. We don't have to worry about dying. All we must do is believe in what Jesus did for us!
